Read a Journal Entry

Journals are player created messages about things in game. Most of the time these can be considered to be known things, as somethig your character heard via rumor, though they can also be flagged as out of character information that is really only meant for your enjoyment as a player rather than for use by your characters (unless they happen to know of it some other way.)

Chapter 4: Caorran And The Triumvirate And The Triumvir Wars

Written by Aldous Fletcher on 39-41-4 (November 21, 2023 17:42)

The historical narrative takes a significant turn with the arrival of the unslumbered Asrians, led by Asran The Light-Bearer, in the western wastelands. This event not only marked the fall of the Wastes of the West but also heralded the ascendancy of Asrania. As a gesture of goodwill, Empress Sharona Arbuckle integrated the Asrians into the Confederation, incorporating them as its latest Member-State with the support of King Cailean I, despite her initial inclination to annihilate these "invaders."

The slumbering of Duke Altus Kruger and the Elector Realm of Katanwald further bolstered the Asrians, enabling them to extend their dominion into the slumber-stricken eastern territories.

It is essential to note that the The Solisian Church is the historical religion of the Asrians, and the Slumberblight Pandemic and Caorran's conversion described in Chapter 3 occurred during the events leading to the rise of Asrania within the Western Confederation.

Therefore, with the two largest subrealms within the Confederation sharing a common faith and the establishment of new Cathedrals in Fairshore and The Lowlands, extending the influence of this faith, aligned with the objective of achieving cultural cohesion across the western sphere to ensure the Confederation's stability, Empress Sharona resolved to convert and declare the The Solisian Church as the official religion of the Confederation.

With the active Electorates now comprising only Valentia, Caorran, and Asraniae, a crucial decision was made to reshape the Confederation into a fully-fledged Empire, governed by a Triumvirate selected from the Electorates.

The Elector-Realms elected their own rulers as Triumvirs, Cailean the Undying, Asran The Light-Bearer, and former sole ruler of the West, Sharona Arbuckle, despite lingering animosity between Sharona and Asran, with Cailean persistently attempting to mediate between them.

However, on the fateful evening of 38-42-6, Sharona's forces marched upon the Ecclesial settlement of Naxos. Immediately, Solar Ecclesiarch Helia I excommunicated Sharona, rallying the faithful to reclaim the city. With the support of The Bright Custodians, Naxos was successfully reconquered, marking the commencement of the Triumvir Wars.

Triumvir Asran publicly denounced Sharona's actions and called for her imprisonment. In response, she fled south, prompting Asran to swiftly revoke her position as one of the Triumvirs. Collaborating with The Ecclesia and forces from Asrania, troops from Caorran marched upon Sharona's capital of Erforderlich on 38-55-4 under the command of Triumvir Cailean. They liberated the town, while the Asrians and Ecclesial soldiers annexed the remainder of Valentia.

Leveraging her connections within The Lowlands, Sharona secured the support of Maid Marion and Otto the Great, sparking a conflict between the West and the Lowlanders. Following the massacre of innocent Ecclesial citizens living in the vicinity of Antigonia, Fairshore and Ascalon soon joined the West against the barbaric Lowlander forces.

Triumvir Cailean led further assaults within Lowlander territory. Notably, the siege of Molk: despite facing overwhelming odds and fighting alone, he emerged victorious in the initial assault against the city's walls on 39-12-4, personally defeating two foes in mortal combat. This remarkable feat of bravery and survival earned him the well-deserved nickname Cailean the Undying.

The independence of Tor Kleykiriya from The Lowlands and the encroachment by Gaul (Gallia), a tribe that had split from Rathgar, into their territories cemented its unavoidable fate. Surrounded on all sides and devoid of further support, the Lowlander Confederation met its demise, bringing an end to the Triumvir Wars. Triumvir Cailean called for an Inter-Realm Congress, gathering the rulers of the West, represented by Caorran and the Asraniae, Fairshore, Ascalon, Falconreach, and The Ecclesia, with the objective of peacefully defining the borders between their nations, thus paving the way for lasting peace.

Unfortunately, on 39-30-4, Cailean was attacked by the Talornidr on the outskirts of Orikos, led by the warrior Bahana d'Jelailos - Kingsdoom. Outnumbered and with enemy reinforcements arriving at every hour, the Undying King met his fate and died in battle.

The aftermath of the Triumvir Wars saw the rise of Neankhar, Weiden and the Principality of Alauna as new subrealms of the West, emerging from the ashes of Sharona's former lands, and the ressurgence of Falconreach as an Ascalonian subrealm. On 39-35-2, nobles began gathering at Riverhall for the Inter-Realm Congress, to decide the fate of the conquered Lowlands. Cailean's son, King Aodhàn the Unbound, attended in his place.
