-
The King or Queen of Ascalon is the absolute ruler of the nation, the one person to whom all pledges and oaths of loyalty return to. He or she has the final word in all matters of the realm, and is supported in his function by a council of nobles. The King or Queen of Ascalon also executes any noble prisoners in person, as tradition dictates. The throne is passed through Agnatic-Cognatic Primogeniture, where a female heir can only inherit the title and become a Queen Regnant when there are no male children.

Realm Description
Geography
The Kingdom of Ascalon is a large Kingdom nearly in the exact center of the Corelands. The most prominent landmarks included in the Kingdom are the Bakavis river that splits the realm in half and the great Coi Woods that compromise most of the heartlands. Formerly known as the 'great Ascalon', it used to be much more than this.
History
Ascalon was founded by local nobles and war-weary Erstan and Rathgari nobles who flocked to the cause of an independant realm. Soon their influence and power grew above their initial neutral position, and made them a full-fledged international player. Slowly building under the House of Arescod, they fought their wars both North and South, they gradually climbed into the limelight. Under a new ruler they even made it to be the dominant nation, but it is as they say, noone can predict what the God of Change might alter next, and evetually this was undone. Attacked by the Hawks they rapidly faded away. Gradually the kingdom grew smaller and smaller, until it was barely there. But in the face of so much adversity, the Ascalonian drive for autonomous ruling once more grew. Slowly the kingdom started to reappear, wearing their banner proudly.
Culture
Ascalon has a rather unique culture due to its location and origin. The local culture boasting chivalrous ideals with a hard practical undertone that identified itself with the civilized coastal peoples in the South blended with the immigrant Rathgari and Erstan cultures into a diverse but certianly culturally unified land. The Islanders too had an important part in the creation of this peculiar culture, and often it is said that the original populance once moved here from the Isles themselves.
Religion
Ascalon is a tolerant realm on topic of religion. No official religion exists for it, but the following exist within it: Holy Trinity and its Holy Trinitary State, the Cult of the Holy Beheaded Martyr, Aeternum Solis, and various folk religions within its forests and hinterlands.
Economy
Ascalon is a densely-wooded realm and as such it is known for its quality oak- and yew forests. As a result woodworking traditions are widespread and a culture of archery has bloomed inside the realm. What little metal deposits are avalaible requires intensive work to be made useful. As a consequence, most if not all of the metal has to be imported. The lush valleys in between the forested hills ensure that agriculture is a valued craft in the Ascalonian hearthlands, and well-established roads led to a slow process of urbanisation taking place, resulting in the jewel of Arescod growing to become a great center of civilisation in the Corelands.
