My fellow natives,
There are serious, very serious, choices of policy to be made, and made immediately, which it was neither right nor lawfully permissible that I should assume the responsibility of making.
On a day two weeks ago, a native from Tor Subir has been recklessly attacking our people and successfully taking our settlements. We have caused no reason for them to do such a thing. Aggression was never used against this set of people and their policy of attacking our Kingdom is unlawful and ignorant.
The precautions taken were meagre and haphazard enough, as was proved in distressing instance after instance in the progress of the cruel and unmanly business, but a certain degree of restraint was observed. The new policy has swept every restriction aside.
I was, for a little while, unable to believe that such things would, in fact, be done by any government that had hitherto subscribed to the humane practices of civilized nations.
This minimum of right the Tor Subir Government has swept aside under the plea of retaliation and necessity.
That is why I stand before you all today declaring war on these belligerents. We must fight for our freedom, we must fight for what we believe in, and we must fight for the ones we follow. May God be with us and may we prosper from this war. God bless!
