The Senators are an elected body with legislative powers within the Principality. Laws formulated by the Senate affect the entirety of Principatus Vesperia, and can only be overturned by the Prince or Princess.
The Magistrate manages the daily affairs of the Principatus, ranging from trade and tribute to infrastructure. This office also holds the historical records of the Principality.
The Equites are those nobles able to field three hundred soldiers for war, including those under the command of their vassals but not including those posted as militia in settlements. In wartime, the Equites become the prime advisory body to the Prince or Princess.
The Patricians are an advisory body composed of nobles who have at least five settlements under their care, including those held by their vassals. In the absence of the Prince or Princess, they hold the power of that office.
The Principality of Vesperia is the southernmost domain of the Sarantian Empire. With its capital at Arx Vesperia, the principality serves as the southern gateway to Sarantium with its many ports.
Vesperia also controls the rich Vedahorn Vale, with its northern capital at Valereach. Furthermore, it holds outposts on the southernmost of the Fading Isles and the island of Antigonossus on the eastern sea of the Empire.
Governance
Vesperia is centrally ruled by its current Prince or Princess. Assemblies such as those of the Patricians and the Equites act in an advisory capacity to the Princely office.
Legislation can be formulated by the Senate, but such laws may be overturned by the Prince or Princess. As Vesperia aspires to be a state of economic and military strength, Senators are elected in the manner of swords. Each Senator serves for the term of one year, open to re-election after their term. The Senate comprises of a tenth of the noble population of the Principality, with a minimum of two.
Law
Taxation - A tax of food is enacted throughout the Principality at a rate of fifty to a hundred bushels per estate, the exact amount determined by the Prince, Princess, or the Magistrate.
Servitude - Recognizing the economic importance of indentured servants, thralldom is deemed legal and recommended throughout the Principality. Details are to be determined by the Assembly of Patricians.
Military - In order to safeguard the Principality from threats external and domestic, each estate must be amply defended by able soldiers. Further, recognizing that war can come at any time, a dedicated legion must be sustained by the nobility of Vesperia. Details are to be determined by the Assembly of Equites.
