Wielder of Telesto, Spear of the North

Telesto, Spear of the North

Forged in the fires of Valenshallen, Telesto. A large blood drop shaped tip mounted on a steel sheathed shaft carved of old growth wood. Below the tip, lies a scroll, In dark ink it reads "Sanguinius Calistarius pledges his family to the crown of Valinor so long as they uphold and fight for the honor of the north". A Gold band holds it in place. Hand holds, one in the middle, and one near the base have been carved and burnt into the handle. At the base rests a steel stud, Formed from the goblet that Sanguinius Calistarius shared with the king, John Van Valen on there first meeting in Valenshallen. It is rumored to hold a direct link to its creators spirit in the afterlife.

Wielders of the Spear:

Sanguinius Calistarius, who was slain in the tournament held in honor of the creation of Telesto...

James Van Valen, claimed the spear after the fall of Sanguinius.

Bearer of Bear's Axe

Bear's Axe

That famed weapon of the Bear God...

When war does not call, the Axe is kept at Bear's Stone. Few know the whole story of the Bear God... one must speak to the original surviving Gothi of Rathgar to know all. It is rumored that each First One who wields the Axe must first cut themselves upon the blade.

Those who have wielded the Axe:

The Bear God Gothi Garrick of Gladwin Malcolm Tarn Bearson Varin Soilminder (received permission to use the Axe from Gothi Garrick)

The Axe is currently in the hands of víg bjarn-dýr Van Valen, Step brother of Tarn Bearson through his mother Valhilda. After taking Bear's Stone in battle, it is said that Vig cut himself on his chest once for each claw of a bear. The resulting wounds put him down for weeks...but it is said that the spirit of his mothers lover, the Bear God, resides within him.

King / Queen

James Van Valen, Second King of Valinor, Wielder of Telesto Spear of the North, Blóðugr Champion of Valinor. Brother of the first King.

James was killed in during the year 5 raids. That realm he was surrounded by them and given no options of flight. Instead he was attacked repeatedly then when all his warriors had died...and the attacks continued until he too was dead.

- John Van Valen, First King of Valinor, Spear Master of the Northern coasts.

The title of King is held by the strong. Not just the strong of spear but also of mind and faith. It takes more than just a strong arm to survive at the top...it takes wisdom and charisma also.

Strength of leadership is a balance. Too hard and you will not bend in the winds in a storm... too soft and can not stand above the rising tide.

(OOC: Note to future Kings and Queens of Valinor. Please keep a bit of information on here about each of the Kings and Queens of the past. This way we can fall back on our history for RP later. Of course you can tweak a little here and there if you would like...after all you are the victor! YOU are in charge. BUT Please do keep the Orig. text or show how you modified it for your own ends.)

Diplomatic Relations To Other Realms

Realm Description

The Kingdom of Valinor...

A harsh realm founded by those left in the Northern seas after the Gods took their war to the skies.

Battle is our temple to the Gods now. The blood of our spears is our tribute... fallen warriors our sacrifice.

Our warriors spirit guides us in our quest of personal honor. Not the honor of pompous lords and ladies, the soft hands of the Southern FirstOnes...No ours is an honor of blood and death. We Salute our enemies as they fall upon our spears, may the Gods enjoy their company in the great halls above. We smile at death...knowing it will be a great honor.

(OOC: Valinor is based off of an idea. A mix of Norse/tribal thoughts. The Strong rise to the top and gain power while those less strong fill in the ranks well below. Raiding is a way of life in Valinor which is vocalized in the saying "What is taken by the spear must be held by the spear"...basically meaning that you can take what you want but if you can not hold it by force, it is no longer yours.

The idea is for us to love our characters...to become emotionally attached to them...while at the same time putting them at great risk. Only then can we really appreciate and respect them.
