Speaker of the Tribes
-
The Speaker of the Tribes is claimed to represent all the families of the plains. He is meant to serve as a mediator amongst the tribes, and a guiding voice in trying times. On his naming, he is bid to renounce his own blood and declare his loyalty to the vision of one plains, one people. Only with the support of most tribes made clear in a Thing may the Speaker be named, and he cannot traditionally be unseated until death.
Whilst the title is ancient amongst Ardaling people, it is one without nuance to its authority or limitations. The current speaker, Retemer the Easterner, is the first to be have the role whilst the Ardaling people hold land. Many argue for the strength of the position, whilst others maintain the Speaker should stay but a mediator of disputes.

Realm Description
The Ardaling Tribes is a coalition of lesser tribes who exhort Ardal, a hero from the Godswar. They say it is he who claimed the Ardaling Plains, spanning from Ausgeir to Thutalan, and they too name themselves his successors as descendants of his companions.
Entrenched rulership of their land is a recent phenomenon for the people of this peninsula. Lowlander and Rathgari First Ones had maintained dominance over the region whilst the descendants of Ardal remained nothing but herders, sworn warriors, and mercenaries. Tribes did little to cooperate, and often bickered. Though, in the Year 39, Gesimund of the Asiluf was made Speaker of the Tribes and dubbed the Starter of Fires. Under his voice the sons of the plain had united in a way they had not yet before, and the garrisons of several Rathgari estates rebelled in a premeditated effort. Only through sympathetic voices in the Empire itself, vocal support of the neighboring Tor Kleykiriya, and a lack of interest in conflict did the Emperor not quash the rebellion.
After their independence seemed under no threat, Gesimund mustered forth the first true army of the plains and won the west of the peninsula from Lowland rogues.
Flatlands and rolling, open hills cover the peninsula. True cities are hard to find, the towns are modest and few structures can call themselves massive. Many families earn their livelihoods driving herds of cattle to graze whilst cloaked riders prowl the same plains.
